Bruce the Amazing Piano Tuning Man is here for the semi-annual piano tuning. This time he is giving Noah a lesson on tuning. They are starting their 3rd hour of the lesson. Whew!
He doesn't talk about the tuning as "good" or "bad". He uses descriptors like: clean, dirty, slow, busy. He and Noah play a 2 note "chord" and discuss at great length if it is dirty/busy/slow/clean. They manipulate the piano, play it again and seem very happy at the change. It all sounds the same to me.
Bruce tunes by ear and it is amazing. It requires incredible focus, a good ear, and endless patience. We love it when he tunes. Noah will play the piano non-stop for the next few days and comment endlessly on how much better it sounds - but as I mentioned before, it all sounds the same to me.
If you have a cranky old piano that you are willing to let Noah practice on, let him know.

I didn't know a piano could sound dirty or clean for that matter. Is that covered in the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet?
Semi annual? Yikes. We are waaaaay over due. Send Noah our way!
I admire the way you have fostered Noah's love of music. I remember a concert about 14 years ago with him playing a song of his own composition. You are good parents.
PBS just had a show about making a Steinway, in case Noah is interested. I watched and I don't even play the piano. They probably have it online.
