Tuneful Tuesday

On Sunday morning Noah's fabulous piano teacher called, she had tickets to the symphony that afternoon. Did we want them? YES! Ms. Sarah's seats are 3rd row right behind the conductor, so we had an up close personal relationship with the symphony. They make eye contact with you. It is rather thrilling.

Noah's Fabulous Piano Teacher, Ms. Sarah (isn't she cute!)

I am probably one of the few moms in the Continental United States who's 16 year old son begs her to go to the symphony with him. The only instrument Noah loves as much as the piano is the cello. He dreams of owning his own. He really wanted to hear this piece by Edward Elgar (1888), who, by the way, also wrote Pomp and Circumstance. You may recognize this because it is what August Rush's mom was playing at the Central Park concert while he was in the Subway.

This is a recording of YoYo Ma playing with the Chicago SO. But we had this exact view of our cellist, Daniel Lee. We were close enough to see the rosin flying off the bow and hear him gasp for breath between phrases of the music. Amazing.

Enjoy.

How cool it is that at 16 he has found his passion. I don't know alot of adults that can say that! His talent will not only provide much joy for him, but enrich the lives of so many more throughout the years. Post a video of him playing!!!

How AWESOME!

That is such a cool experience. I am glad you got to do this!

I was able to go to the SF Symphony and see Emanuel Ax (my favorite pianist next to Noah). We were in the 2nd row. I was so surprised by all the grunting and singing along (!) and other noises he made. He was really into it. It was very entertaining.

Some day we will be in the 2nd row watching Noah and saying the same about him!

Also, I love how yo-yo looks over at the orchestra in the middle of his playing, right before they come in, like he is saying "can you believe how sad this is? It is such a sad song! When you come in, please play sadly too."

Love this concerto. No one plays romantic pieces like Yo-Yo Ma. The cello is the all-time BEST instrument in my opinion. It has this truly rich, resonate sound that is almost decadent. I also love how the cello and bow are extentions of his own body. SO amazing. I am so glad and jealous you got to go!

By the way, this is one of the songs I listen to in the car when the kids need to calm down. Kaylee laughs at me b/c I turn it up really loud and say, "Listen to how beautiful this is. Close your eyes and listen. There is so much feeling." It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Oh, to play like that.

This is fabulous music. As soon as I'm through posting this I am going to amazon to see if I can buy his cd with this on it. I need it to calm me down when I'm stressed (every day).

Noah looks so handsome, tall and happy. What neat grandson!
