The Truth Is

A big flower in my neighbor's yard

The Truth Is:

My house smells like a combination of vinegar and natural gas. After extensive checking we've found it is neither. The landlord (Asian) can't smell it so it must be an Asian thing. I need Scentsy.

The housekeeper said my favorite indoor plant was poisonous and sending toxic gasses to attack us. She wanted to move it outside immediately. Two nursery people and a feng shui expert said we were safe. The smell isn't coming from the plant.

I've had more lunches out and shopping trips with girlfriends in the last 3 weeks then I had for all of 2013. People are super friendly. Hardly any of the women work because it completely messes up taxes/hard for expat spouses to get jobs here, so most everyone wants to hang out. It is fun!

I miss my friends in Colorado and Idaho. You know, the ones that have known you forever and you can say snarky things in front of.

Ike and I both miss his friends. Especially during basketball games. Sigh...those boys. I love them.

Singaporeans love these chairs. They are everyplace and get used a lot.

Suddenly I am noticing how beautiful Singapore is. I think the first 4 weeks we were all in survivor mode.

We have 2 sets of orchids. They rotate inside and out to stay healthy.

One day I had an appointment at the US Embassy and couldn't get there in time on the MRT and couldn't, for the life of me, book a taxi. It was a bad day.

Note: get a car.

The stairway rail is on the right when it has always been on the left. This and so many other learning curves still surprise me. Like I keep forgetting to turn on the waterheater before I shower. It's not too bad though because the cold water is really kinda warm anyways.

Tip: When you are talking about visiting Phuket, Thailand remember that the "ph" is pronounced like "p".

Actual bird's nests for bird's nest soup.

I am no longer shocked at the heat and humidity every time I leave the house.

Finally. I really miss Roland. He worked so hard when we got here that we hardly saw him and now he is in the states. It is strange to be "home" in Singapore while he is on a business trip in Colorado.

Survival mode. Missing friends. Missing your man when he's back in your home turf. Girl, I hear you...and I'm only a few states away from home. Seriously, lots of love to you. Singapore is lucky to have you, with your toxic plant loving and all. I think of you all the time. xoxo, Cumorah

Stinky house probably from years of birds nest soup with bird doo doo.

Girlfriends, shopping, playing, all easier to do when you have a house keeper. Does she come daily? Does she cook Chinese food for you? She probably doesn't like to clean leaves of houseplant

Roland's trips....is this going to be a pattern?

Hi Robin! How fun to read your post! In that we arrived just barely a day apart, I completely related to pretty much everything you are saying!...and so can't wait to get to be one of those girlfriends at lunch with you! ;-) (yes still sick child, poor guy) I also had to laugh, you know that chair you posted? When we were touring our house (apt) the master bedroom had one of those chairs in it!...there are 4 marks on the wooden floor left behind to prove it! I found it somehow so funny!

In any case, I so look forward to getting to know you better and how fun to find your blog! Hope to see you very soon! xx Natasha
