People (especially our children) think that because Roland is so big and strong and sometimes scary looking (he has a "Ima kick your a$$" look that is serious) that he doesn't get his feelings hurt. They are wrong.Roland has been out of town for a week and he came home to boys that were more interested in hanging out with friends and reading books, Hannah and Gabe ignoring his calls and texts, and a wife who is a little PMSy and annoyed that he wants so much attention.
He needs attention. (I bet all our husbands need that.) He has been a little out of control trying to get attention. He sings goofy songs, teases (when, oh when, will he learn that his kids rarely like it when he teases them?), gets in the boy's faces with loud animated requests for attention, and generally acts obnoxious. Watching him try to get attention from the kids is one of my favorite things, he is very persistent. All he really wants is a good wrestling match or a dog pile. Is that too much to ask?
Poor guy. After numerous failed attempts he finally settled down with a book. He sometimes reminds me of a 3 year old.

May I suggest trying to BUY attention?
It works for men everywhere. Taking the wife out to a nice dinner, buying flowers- buying a boat for the kids to wakeboard on.
If the puppy dog looks and annoying songs fail to get noticed, the almightly dollar is a garunteed cure all.
salt - are you suggesting that I BUY things for Roland and when he gets all loud and goofy trying to get attention, I just toss him a new ipod, fishing pole, snowmobile, leather jacket, convertible?
hmmm. Has this worked for you?
Dog piles are cheaper.
Lily saw Uncle Roland across a crowded parking lot today. She was very very sad that he didn't come and hug her and say hello. Very sad. She cried.
Hug him for her, and tell him at our house he'd get an instant dogpile and plenty of attention.
Like Melissa said, if Uncle Roddin (my favorite name for Roland) came to our house, he'd get plenty of affection and attention. Lainey would probably take a nap on him. Jason would be happy to hang out with Roland but would be on his blackberry the whole time.
I would put that man to work around the house.
Awww. Give the big guy a hug.
What? He doesn't come home and boss everyone around and try to regain his dominant male status?
Yeah, my husband doesn't do that anymore either. Didn't work out so well.
This is one of the many reasons I love Roland: because he is tough, and he can certainly do some a$$ kicking. But he needs some lovin just like everyone else. Remember your recent post about how you cry at movies and your kids look at eachother like "Mom is a softie"? Well, I guess this is Roland's "softie" give-away. The secret is out.
Poor guy - go give him a hug.
